Riverston Upper School is tailor-made to meet the needs of our young people as they continue their adventure in education. Our small size and low teacher-pupil ratio means a highly personal and bespoke curriculum for each student.

Enjoy our friendly, supportive atmosphere

We have the capacity for more than 100 Year 9, 10 and 11 students in our Upper School. We provide them with an innovative and forward thinking range of study options.

Given our modest size, the curriculum at Key Stage Four is surprisingly large. It includes traditional and vocational courses, including BTEC.

Each student is placed in a small tutor group with a form tutor responsible for their well-being and progress. Our teaching groups are even smaller, averaging between 10 and 15 students. Few schools can offer a bespoke education with such small teaching groups!

What can we expect?

Everyone who visits Riverston comments on the friendly, positive and happy atmosphere that encourages and supports students, allowing them to flourish and reach their potential.

From the outset, each student is placed in one of four houses with a Housemaster or Housemistress who also seeks to promote their welfare. Giving our young people a sense of responsibility and indeed the experience of responsibility, each tutor group will have a form captain. In Year 11 a number of students are appointed as school prefects, with a Head of School and Deputy Head of School.

Alongside this, our house system has House Captains and Sports Captains and we also have a School Council made up of student representatives from each tutor group.

As an extension to the curriculum pupils are encouraged to join residential educational trips to many exiting places, including Disneyland Paris. Intensive language courses are run at Chateau de la Baudonniere, Normandy France.

Where do students go from here?

Students leaving us at the end of Year 11 continue with their education at a variety of destinations. This includes the sixth forms of our local Independent Schools. It also includes the sixth form at some of our local state Grammar Schools such as Chislehurst and Sidcup, Bexley and Dartford.

In addition, some of our students go into a variety of colleges such as West Kent, Bromley and Christ the King.

Riverston has ambitions to re-establish a post-16 facility especially for those pupils seeking an alternative to A levels yet still leading to university entrance success or formal professional qualifications.
