Riverston Nursery School is a warm and welcoming place where children play and learn. Our staff are highly qualified; our rooms bright, cheerful and full of fun. The emphasis is on giving children a feeling of self-assurance in an atmosphere of wonder and excitement.

A stimulating, encouraging place to be

At Riverston we aim to ensure your child receives the best possible start to their learning in a stimulating and encouraging setting.

From 1-3 years they are in rooms for babies and toddlers. At the age of 3+ years, with a smooth transition, they move up to our pre-school class in the Lower School.

How soon can my child join?

They may join at any age from 1 year, subject to place availability. They soon relax, make friends and enjoy their days. They have their own dining room with healthy meals, and dedicated, secure play areas.

How will my child learn and develop?

There is plenty of time for everyone to participate in the wide range of activities we offer – both indoors and outside. We follow the Birth to Three Matters Framework which helps develop babies and toddlers. We recognise that all those aged 1-3 years have a need to develop and learn through interaction with people and exploration of the world around them.

There is an ongoing record of achievement, and we also provide a variety of other regular formal and informal feedback to you.

The record of achievement covers every aspect of a child’s intellectual, physical and social development. Records are updated regularly.

Riverston staff recognise that, for babies and young children, there is a close relationship between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated.

Our Nursery rooms

Riverston’s youngest pupils have their own cheerful baby room. They move up to the toddler room when they, as individuals, are ready. This very much depends on each child’s unique needs and stage of development. We believe that change should be managed as part of a natural progression.

Our toddler rooms allow pupils to paint, draw and engage in a wide range of creative activities. In quieter moments there’s time to look at books and chances to complete jigsaws.

The idea is to promote independent learning, social skills and personal development essential for all toddlers. There is an opportunity for our toddlers to rest if necessary, sleeping on individually named, comfortable sleep mats or in cots.
