Founders Day

Yesterday we celebrated Founders Day at Riverston. This year is the 90th anniversary of our school which was founded in 1926 and later taken over in 1956 by Mr and Mrs Lewis senior. Founders Day is normally held in January because Mr F D Lewis’s birthday was in that month and he too would have been 90 years old this year. The service is in the memory of the work that he and Mrs Lewis and the Lewis family have contributed to the success of the school as we see it today.

We congregated at St Michael and All Angel’s Church in Blackheath to celebrate with the children, staff and parents. Mrs Lewis was deeply moved and touched by the readers, singers and our creative Poet Laureate, Aku Mauluka. Cllr Normal Adams, Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich also joined us for this special occasion and gave a congratulatory address to the congregation.

A big thank you to the junior choir who sang beautifully as usual, and much admiration to our staff choir who sang wonderfully in Welsh. We also want to say a big thank you to Mr Allen and the students of our sister school, Beech Hall, for coming to join us to mark this special occasion.
