Riverston Post 16 Admissions
Following an informal meeting between the parents, Headmistress and the Senior Masters and Mistresses of the school, external pupils who wish to be considered for a place at Riverston are required to spend a 2 or 3 day trial period at the school during which time a decision will be made whether or not a place will be offered. The Post 16 Registration Form needs to be completed and the Registration fee is payable at this point.
Prospective pupils are made to feel very welcome during their the trial period and are “buddied” with a pupil who will support them during their stay. After the trial period a decision is made as to whether or not we are able to fully meet the needs of the pupil and whether or not they will be suitable to join our community. Parents will be given detailed feedback of the trial period by the Form Teacher and senior staff members. Once a place is offered, a pupil may start as soon as the Acceptance Fee and first term’s fees are paid in full.
Post 16 education at Riverston follows a "bespoke" curriculum and this is created individually for each pupil. Teaching groups are small which enables an excellent teacher:pupil ratio, encouraging each student to work in their chosen subjects to achieve very good results. The subjects on offer are numerous and wide ranging, giving pupils an exceptionally good choice. The following courses are currently on offer and these are being extended on a continual basis: A Levels, Btecs, City & Guilds, and GCSE re-takes. A level subjects such as English, History, Humanities and Financial Capabilities are available, but we are able to offer other subjects if required. Additional Numeracy and Literacy lessons are also taught. For students who wish to study a more vocational type of education, we offer courses in subjects such as Animal Management, Horticulture, Health & Beauty, Child Care Learning and Development, Carpentry, DIY and school-based work experience in general maintenance. We have a close relationship with local colleges, one of which is Hadlow College in Mottingham.
As a student studying at Riverston Post 16, the benefits will include:
- Formal Business attire for all pupils
- Common Room facilities
